Dhaka, February 18, 2025: District Commissioners (DCs) have proposed implementing a universal military training program for the youth of Bangladesh, aiming to enhance national defense preparedness. The proposal was raised during the Defense Ministry and Armed Forces Division session of the District Commissioner Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Following the session, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Abdul Hafiz, briefed the media regarding the key points discussed. He highlighted that the DCs inquired about strengthening civil-military cooperation, proposing orientation programs at the divisional level to improve coordination between the civil administration and the armed forces.
Additionally, the DCs raised concerns about security challenges in remote and sensitive areas, including counterterrorism operations in isolated regions and char areas where additional force deployment and logistical support are required. They expressed interest in collaborating with security forces to address these issues effectively.
Lieutenant General (Retd.) Hafiz also noted that discussions covered the Bangladesh Navy’s role in anti-illegal fishing operations and safeguarding maritime resources. Moreover, concerns were raised regarding insurgent activities by the Kuki-Chin National Front in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, which have negatively impacted the local tourism industry and employment opportunities for the youth. Strategies to counteract this trend and ensure regional stability were discussed.
In light of recent political unrest, authorities emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against destabilizing activities that could lead to national disorder.
The proposed universal military training initiative, if implemented, could equip young citizens with essential military skills and reinforce their role in national defense, fostering a more prepared and resilient society.
